Differential Pressure vs. Injection Casting

All of the Schultheiss casting machines are capable of casting using Differential Pressure. The VPC Pure and VPC 100 are also capable of Injection Casting. So, what's the difference?

  • Differential Pressure

Differential Pressure Casting involves keeping the melting chamber and flask chamber at two different pressures. When the sealing rod inside the crucible lifts, the pressure differential will help pull the molten metal into the flask more quickly. This is much more effective than using vacuum alone.

  • Injection

With Injection Casting on the VPC Pure and VPC 100, once the sealing rod is lifted inside the crucible, gas pressure from behind the metal will push it into the flask. This method is very effective for pieces with high detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are Schultheiss casting machines used in jewelry production and manufacturing?

Schultheiss machines combine induction melting, pressure-differential casting, and automated casting cycles to produce repeatable, high-quality results. These systems are engineered to minimize metal loss, improve casting detail, and reduce finishing time.

What types of jewelry can be cast with Schultheiss machines?

Schultheiss casting systems can produce a wide range of jewelry including:

  • Intricate filigree pieces
  • Pavé and stone-setting designs
  • Gold and silver jewelry
  • Production jewelry components

Their pressure-controlled casting technology allows molten metal to fill extremely detailed molds reliably.

What metals can be cast with Schultheiss casting machines?

Schultheiss VPC machines support many jewelry alloys including silver and all gold alloys, including Palladium White.

How does automated casting improve production?

Automated casting cycles help manufacturers maintain consistent temperatures, pressure, and timing during the casting process. This improves repeatability, reduces operator error, and allows shops to maintain higher production output with consistent results.

What are the benefits of pressure-differential casting

Pressure-differential casting improves metal flow into molds, allowing molten metal to reach extremely fine details while reducing porosity and shrinkage defects.

This results in:

  • Smoother surfaces
  • Denser castings
  • Better fill in intricate designs
  • Less finishing work
  • More consistent casting results
